WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?: DR N. GOVENDER
Chiropractic is a branch of the scientific healing arts that deals with the dysfunction of
the neuromusculoskeletal system. Research has shown that chiropractic therapy is a
useful adjunct to conventional medical practices.
WHAT DO CHIROPRACTORS DO?
After careful assessment and diagnosis of the condition as a result of a detailed case
history and general examination in conjunction with the necessary investigations (eg. xrays,
scans, blood tests, etc.), the chiropractor then decides on a treatment protocol. The
treatment includes: manipulation of the spine, soft tissue therapy (massage), trigger point
therapy, acupuncture, electrotherapeutic modalities, strapping and rehabilitative exercise
programs to provide an effective and gentle means of therapy.
COMMON CONDITIONS TREATED BY CHIROPRACTORS
Headaches, neck and shoulder pain, back pain, extremity/limb and foot pain,
sprains and strains, sports injuries, arthritis, whiplash, pinched nerves, slipped discs
and infantile colic.
THE AFFORDIBILITY OF CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT
Currently, all medical aid schemes pay for chiropractic treatment and non-medical aid
patients find that chiropractic treatment is a cost-effective option.
